Biography
I work with a variety of mental health issues including trauma. Trauma can come from all sorts of experiences, including abuse and neglect, abandonment, adoption, war or witnessing acts of violence, divorce, accidents, a narcissistic parent or partner, etc. Trauma and adverse situations leave us with feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, sadness as well as poor sleep, racing thoughts, feelings of not being good enough, of not being safe, not loveable, not smart enough or feelings of anger/rage, self hate, feeling unworthy, feelings of shame, guilt, etc., etc. All of these feelings drown out our innate happiness and over time can cause physical distress and even pain and ailments. These feelings can in turn cause us to act out in ways detrimental to our natural state of happiness. Alcohol, drugs, gambling, over-eating, affairs, work-a-holism, and self-sabotage are just a few of the ways we can use to suppress or compensate for these uncomfortable conscious and sub-conscious feelings. With effort and time we are able to heal from the effects of trauma and its resulting negative self-beliefs and behaviors. Healing allows us to move on to experience the feelings of self-love, joy, peace, and happiness we all desire and have at the core of our being. Along with other therapeutic modalities, I specialize and am certified in CRM (Comprehensive Resource Model) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). They are possibly the most up-to-date and cutting edge therapies available for trauma. EMDR is an evidence-based practice endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association, the Department of Defense, the Veterans Administration and many foreign countries. More information for EMDR can be found at emdria.org. If you know of someone, a friend, patient, veteran or family member who may be struggling, please send him or her my way. I work with patients ages fifteen and above.
